The Ruger™ AMERICAN bolt guns in 7.62X39 and 6.5 Grendel are fantastic ranch and prepper rifles, and also are good self defense solutions for those behind enemy lines in ban states.  Unfortunately they take a proprietary magazine that doesn't have many fans.  Enter the RUK magwell.  This 100% MADE IN USA billet badassery enables the user to use MOST AK mags with the RUGER™ AMERICAN.  There's a small amount of shim-fitting (you don't cut anything) to be done, but installation will be cake for most users and most mags.

The body of the magwell is TYPE III billet 6061 aluminium (yes, "alumin-eeum"), with American spring and axis pin.  The mag catch is orderable in a standard stamped American version or our oh-so-slappable FATBOTTOM billet 4140 extended catch. 

FINE PRINT- You can either set up the magwell to run MAGPUL™ mags or (almost) everything else.  AK mags are made in a ton of countries, and some are better than others at being "normal".  The shim-fitting consists of adding shims (washers) until you get good operation with your selection. Korean and KCI mags have intermitent fitment. If you know "right-tighty, lefty-loosie" you can do this install.

We get a lot of questions about whether the RUK will fit your RUGER™ American Ranch in 7.62X39 or 6.5 Grendel.  Here's how to know if it'll fit your particular gun (see also the photo below):

  • If you have a Gen 1 American with the original stock, AND it has a removable magwell that screws into the bottom of the stock, the RUK WILL FIT.
  • If you have a Gen 2 American with the RUGER stock, the RUK WILL FIT.
  • If you have a American with a SHARPS BROTHERS HEATSEAKER chassis, the RUK WILL NOT FIT.
  • If you have a MAGPUL™ HUNTER stock, the RUK WILL NOT FIT.

    I have a variety of AK mags from several different countries of origin. With my initial install I couldn't find the sweet spot that all of the mags liked, and I didn't want to keep track of which ones worked, so I finally just set it up to run with Magpul mags. It runs like a champ. I'm happy with the product.

    I inherited a few of the Ruger American Rifles from my father when he passed. He always told me he loved the one in 7.62x39. The only downfall in his mind(as well as mine) was that we had had numerous problems with the mini-30 mags. Complete garbage. I have a few AK-47’s, and when I found out about Occam making the magwell……I was all in. Cuts down on mags(plus having better ones). Took it to the range today and it worked flawlessly. Amazing job by the people at Occam, keep up the good work!

    This product is well made, sturdy, and relatively easy to install. Just follow the directions and test out the ak mags you got. I tested out Romanian/Bulgarian (which worked best) as the KCI/Croatian mags were not as reliable.

    The RUK Magwell is excellent the directions are a little difficult to understand but wacthing a video along with the instructions gets you exactly where you need to be. The magwell works great I adjusted for magpul AK mags and all the other magazines I own cycle rounds just fine with some very minor adjusments to the magazines. Excellent product steps up the game 1000% for the Ruger American rifles!!!

    This has really made my rifle my favorite gun to shoot.the rifle has always shot very well and accurate but the mini 30 mags have always given me problems with this new mag well I can use my Ak mags that I already have and it feed so much smoother no more hang up no more messing with the mag after every shot Best upgrade you can buy for the ruger ranch
