RUK AK Magwell for RUGER™ AMERICAN Rifles in 7.62X39
Occam Defense SolutionsThe Ruger™ AMERICAN bolt guns in 7.62X39, .223 (Galil mag use) and 6.5 Grendel are fantastic ranch and prepper rifles, and also are good self defense solutions for those behind enemy lines in ban states. Unfortunately they take a proprietary magazine that doesn't have many fans. Enter the RUK magwell. This 100% MADE IN USA billet badassery enables the user to use MOST AK mags with the RUGER™ AMERICAN. There's a small amount of shim-fitting (you don't cut anything) to be done, but installation will be cake for most users and most mags.
The body of the magwell is TYPE III billet 6061 aluminium (yes, "alumin-eeum"), with American spring and axis pin. The mag catch is orderable in a standard stamped American version or our oh-so-slappable FATBOTTOM billet 4140 extended catch.
FINE PRINT- You can either set up the magwell to run MAGPUL™ mags or (almost) everything else. AK mags are made in a ton of countries, and some are better than others at being "normal". The shim-fitting consists of adding shims (washers) until you get good operation with your selection. Korean and KCI mags have intermitent fitment. If you know "right-tighty, lefty-loosie" you can do this install.

We get a lot of questions about whether the RUK will fit your RUGER™ American Ranch in 7.62X39, .223 (Galil mag use) or 6.5 Grendel. Here's how to know if it'll fit your particular gun (see also the photo below):
- If you have a Gen 1 American with the original stock, AND it has a removable magwell that screws into the bottom of the stock, the RUK WILL FIT.
- If you have a Gen 2 American with the RUGER stock, the RUK WILL FIT.
- If you have an American with a SHARPS BROTHERS HEATSEAKER chassis, the RUK WILL NOT FIT.
- If you have a MAGPUL™ HUNTER stock, the RUK WILL NOT FIT.

RUK AK Mag Well
Being chambered in 7.62x39, my Ruger American Gen 2 Scout came from the factory with a mag well that accepts AK mags. This is a very nice and worthwhile upgrade, aluminum vs plastic, and is esthetically very pleasing. Build quality seems excellent as is fit and finish. Very easy install, just follow the supplied instructions. Do your self a favor and get the upgraded billet mag release paddle. One suggestion to the engineering dept., increase the Allen head size from 1/8” to 3/8”. The 1/8” is potentially too easy to strip and doesn’t offer the same ability to torque the action screws. If one was to strip the rear action screw, I don’t know how that screw would be replaced. It is essentially captive. Well done Occam!

Ruk ak magwell for ruger
Works excellent at .035 shim thickness with all comblock metal mages and AC Unitiy with a little fitting per instructions. No go with Magpul mags without major fitting/ filling.

Ak magwell
I think it’s Better than the original. Easy enough to install. I basically only use the tanker type mags; 1 box=20rds,kiss, the chart for shims made it quick work. Thank you for coming up with this brilliant idea/product

Ruk AK MAGWELL For Ruger American Rifle
The magwell is outstanding! It is a steel product and extremely durable. I used all of supplied spacers and my AK Magpul magazines work perfectly! There is no mag wabble of any kind. I recommend the Ruger Firearms Company incorporating the Occam Defense magwell into all of their 7.62x39 rifles. It’s that good. Get it , you won’t regret it.

MAG WELL 762X39
I went with Mag Pull mags and shimmed at .60 per your instructions. The install was simply and went without a hitch. The magazines go in smoothly with a firm fit and no shifting. I went shooting this weekend and am very happy with the performance. I was using Ruger mini 30 mags and the last 2 or 3 rounds had a habit of doing a nose dive down into the magazine and pushing the follower front end straight down as well. I shot four 30 rd AK mags without a problem. Well pleased !
